Story
I am delighted to say I’ve secured a place for this year’s LDN Marathon. From my own personal experience I’ve been very fortunate to have moved over from Ireland, to live and work here in LDN the past 5yrs.
Truly been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and to think that some people who want but can not get the same opportunities doesn’t sit very well with me. Especially for reasons out of their control, eg Refugees.. which brings me onto who I’m running this marathon in aid off; Jesuit Refugee service UK, JRS . Since 1994 this UK based organisation have been accompanying refugees and forced migrants to gain asylum as well as supporting people made destitute by the asylum process through advice and casework, practical support, emotional befriending and accompaniment, a programme of creative and therapeutic activities, accommodation, and specialist legal advice.
I actually have known about JRS charity and some of the workers at the LDN branch now for some time and they are the salt of the earth people, their work isn’t easy but they honestly are the happiest people, never seem to be phased by anything and easiest people to get along with. Big thank you to all in JRS UK who have been a massive support to me throughout.
Funds raised can go towards: -
£10 provides a monthly mobile credit and data top-up to ensure friends are in touch with charities and loved ones
£15 can provide a refugee with a regular supply of essential toiletries
£25 can help baby essentials such as nappies, baby wipes and baby food
£50 can pay for an emergency hardship grant to newly destitute refugees
£100 helps JRS UK offer legal casework advice and support to refugees
Running a marathon is life changing they say and I hope that in this case for others less fortunate🏃
