Story
I am Patricia Breslin, the founder of “Woman of Substance “, a platform to guiding women through challenges to discover their inner strength and resilience. With over 30 years of experience in areas of domestic violence, addiction, eating disorders, childhood trauma, and self-esteem issues, I have dedicated myself to helping women overcome adversity and transform their lives.
In Northern Ireland, where domestic violence rates are the highest in the UK, “Foyle Women’s Aid” shines as a lifeline for women rebuilding their lives after leaving abusive relationships. Their essential programs empower women to heal, regain confidence, and create brighter futures for themselves and their children.
Tragically, funding cuts jeopardise these vital programs, endangering the progress and hope they offer. This is why I am embarking on a 24-hour swim - to fortify the resources “Foyle Women’s Aid “ and ensure these programs continue making a difference.
As witness to the transformative power of these programs, I have seen firsthand how they empower women to break free from their pasts and embrace new beginnings. With your support, we can secure these programs’ future, helping women escape abusive cycles and build strong, independent lives.
I invite you to join me in this crucial endeavour. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a tangible impact on the lives of women seeking to escape abuse and build a better future. Together, we can rewrite stories, empower survivors, and foster lasting change.
Over two days on November 30th and December 1st I plan to swim for 24 hours in the City Baths Derry and any support you can give will be very much appreciated. Remember a mother, daughter, grandmother, aunt, niece, granddaughter, goddaughter, cousin, work colleague or friend could be suffering Domestic Abuse.
