Story

Alzheimer’s disease has had a huge impact on the Stacey family.

David Andrew Stacey lost his battle with young-onset Alzheimer’s in August at the age of 62 and his uncle, Torbay boxing legend David Leslie Stacey, lived with the disease in the last few years before his passing in October.

They were both passionate Torquay United fans (the latter also worked at the club for a few years) and some of their family and friends are coming together on Saturday 21st December to sponsor the Gulls’ match with Hemel Hempstead in their memory. In doing so, the aim is to raise as much money as possible for the Alzheimer’s Society.

If people can donate whatever they can to this worthwhile cause it would be very much appreciated. There is a signed Torquay home shirt up for grabs to the person who makes the highest single donation (by midnight on 21st December 2024) to the Alzheimer’s Society via this fundraising page. Furthermore, everyone who makes a donation of at least £5 to the fundraising page will have their name put into a draw for a chance to win some other fantastic prizes.

This now includes:

The opportunity to join a Back on the Ball podcast, featuring Torquay United legends Colin Lee and Dean Edwards along with broadcaster David Fitzgerald, and discuss a pre-agreed topic of choice with the team. If the winner is a local business, they can promote it on that particular episode of the podcast. Many thanks to the Back on the Ball team for putting this unique prize forward.
