Story

Later this month a group of us are taking part in a 15km Tough Mudder to try and raise money for The Butterfly AVM Charity. This follows the recent loss of our best friend Jamie Tucknott, who was unfortunate enough to suffer from a brain AVM. We hope you can take some time to read through our page and donate any amount if you're able to. Thank you.

Many of you reading this may be unfamiliar with the term arteriovenous malformation (AVM), and this is what we are here to change. An AVM is a rare condition that occurs when arteries and veins are abnormally connected. AVMs can occur anywhere in the body, but they are most common in the brain and spinal cord. They can be life-threatening if they rupture, but early evaluation and treatment can lead to a full and active life.

The Butterfly AVM Charity is an incredible organisation which aims to spread information about this condition so that fewer families have to suffer as Jamie's family has. Due to AVM being such a rare, yet devastating condition, there has been a lack of funding for hospitals and doctors to find a treatment, something the Butterfly Charity wishes to change. There's no easy way to write this, but our dearest and most beautiful friend Jamie suddenly passed away earlier this August from a brain AVM. He lit up every room he stepped in, whether from his contagious laugh or his infectious smile - or his rather original dancing, he never failed to brighten our days just that bit more. He really was a special man and he'll stay in our hearts forever. We're privileged to have shared so many years with him, and I'm sure all those who knew Jamie can agree. Life won't ever be the same without him. Love you forever.

In honour of Jamie (and also because he'll find it hilarious that we're doing it for him), we have decided to run a Tough Mudder on the 22nd of September to raise more money for this wonderful cause. A few of us, including Jamie, said that we'd run a Tough Mudder as soon as we could, AKA when we were finally out of our student overdrafts. We're sticking to the promise Jamie, and you'll be right there with us.

Just for those who don't know, a Tough Mudder is a 15km run that also consists of 20 brutal obstacles throughout the run, including our personal favourite, the "cry baby" - a crawl through a tear gas blend; so wish us luck.

Thank you for reading our page and donating. Every penny donated will be sent directly to the Butterfly AVM Charity. For Jamie.

We also want to thank Rebecca, Paul, Molly and the rest of Jamie's loving family for making us all feel so loved and welcome. You're the strongest people we know and Jamie was the man we all knew and loved because of you. Thank you.
