Story
Leeds is my hometown, but more importantly Leeds saw my family and I through some incredibly hard times.
Both my sister and I were mentally unwell as teenagers. We both tried to commit suicide on more than one occasion, and my sister ended up being sectioned as a way to keep her from harm.
The unfortunate truth is that the mental health services - CAMHS in particular - do not have enough capacity to support everyone that needs it. Had it not been for the support of Leeds Mind - for my sister and I in accessing counselling when we were both either on very long NHS wait-lists, or discharged too early - I'm not sure either of us would otherwise be here today.
I am also so proud to support Leeds Mind because of the work they do to raise awareness of suicide prevention, connecting older isolated individuals with others, and supporting individuals affected by suicide. Having been an individual affected by my sister's illness I am also so happy to support the work they do on suicide prevention.
I am very grateful for any fundraising received to support a cause that is very close to my heart, especially for my first (and probably only) marathon.
