Story
Last September, my friend Gina lost her life to sepsis. She had flu-like symptoms and a chest infection but quickly became seriously unwell and was hospitalised.
She was otherwise young, fit and healthy, but sepsis can affect anybody, so it's vitally important to be aware of the signs and symptoms.
Gina was a light in so many peoples' lives. For me, Gina was someone I have always looked up to, ever since we became friends at primary school. She's always motivated me to challenge myself and this is still true now.
In memory of G, I will be taking on 6 triathlons, across 6 counties, to raise awareness of the 6 main symptoms of sepsis.
I'll be kicking things off in May and finishing up in September, during sepsis awareness month. So far I have completed triathlons in Surrey, Greater London, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
For the final triathlon I will be doubling the distance and completing an Olympic distance triathlon in G's hometown of Hertfordshire on World Sepsis Day. This is going to be a huge challenge for me, but I have all the motivation I need.
I'm doing this because I want to raise awareness as far and wide as possible, in the hope that more lives can be saved.
I'm fundraising for The UK Sepsis Trust, who do an amazing job leading the fight against sepsis and supporting those affected by sepsis.
Finally, a huge thank you to British Triathlon for supporting this challenge.
