Story
I lost my wife Chris to motor neurone disease in 2012. Since then I have supported my local branch, the South Yorkshire Branch, as an Association Visitor offering direct support to people with MND and their families, as well as helping the branch provide financial grants for local people with MND.
Since 2015 I have done a number of crazy things to raise money and awareness for MND, like wearing shorts for a year (leading to his nickname Bare Legs Brian) and then wearing a kilt for a year. I decided to test the theory that you never forget how to ride a bike even though up until 2018, I hadn't cycled since the 1960s. After a bit of practice I cycled 2019 miles in 2019, and then in 2023 I rode from London to Paris. Now I am attempting my biggest cycle yet with my Five Capital Challenge for the South Yorkshire Branch.
I plan on cycling from home in Sheffield to the 5 capitals in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. This challenge will be done over 4 events from Sheffield to London, Sheffield to Edinburgh, Sheffield to Cardiff and Sheffield to Belfast to Dublin and will see Brian cycling over 1000 miles to raise vital funds and awareness of MND.
