Story
Thank you for taking the time to read my just giving page.
On the 1st of June 2013 my mum suffered a serious brain injury which would change her life forever. I still remember 8-year-old Finn rocking up at the hospital seeing my mum covered in blood with an oxygen mask on wondering if I will grow up without her, I remember even though she was in all that pain she grabbed my hand, so I knew everything was going to be ok. As the visits went on at the hospital it never got easier watching her get walked to the toilet by staff members so she could throw up but from that moment on I knew I had to look after her like she had done for me for my 8 years of life, that’s when I felt I got my first bit of responsibility.
Thankfully now, 11 years later, my mum is still with me she doesn’t have her sense of smell or taste and struggles to hear out of her left ear and has treatment every 6 weeks on her skull for the head damage, but she doesn’t let that get her down.
This is the reason I am doing the 10km gelt gladiator course wearing a 20kg weighted vest and boots then after each obstacle 10 press ups to give myself a tough challenge like the one my mum faced and, in some cases, still faces today. The charity I am doing this for is Headway North Cumbria because of the amazing support they give my mum and my family without them it would have been even harder than it has been.
