Story
Pseudomyxoma Survivor is a non-profit organisation, run by patients and caregivers. Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare cancer that generally starts in the appendix with mucinous cancer spreading in the abdomen.
In 2018 my mother, Karen, was diagnosed with PMP. She underwent a gruelling 10 hour operation, often nicknamed the mother of all surgeries (MOAS). This involved the removal of 7 abdominal organs and treatment with heated chemotherapy.
During this time Pseudomyxoma Survivor provided incredible support, and still continue to do so. The chances of a PMP diagnosis is one in a million, making it incredibly isolating, daunting, and confusing, but with their support no one feels alone in their diagnosis.
Like many of us, I took up running during lockdown, much to many people’s surprise (myself included!), as the "least sporty" of my friends. Running quickly became a passion of mine, and I made it a goal to run a marathon in support of this truly amazing cause. May 26th will be the day I finally embark on this.
For such a small charity, they really do make such a monumental difference to the lives and families of those affected. Any donations would be so greatly appreciated, helping to continue the fantastic work they do in providing a lifeline for many like my mum.
Thank you for your support :)
