Story
Working in the RAF in a welfare support role, every day we see the incredible impact the RAF Association has on the lives of Service personnel, veterans, and their families. The RAF Association is a lifeline for so many, providing everything from emotional and financial support to practical assistance when it’s needed most.
We’ve been inspired by their work countless times, so when we all started looking for a challenge, we knew we wanted it to be meaningful. That’s when we decided to sign up for the London Landmarks Half Marathon—not just as a personal goal, but as an opportunity to give back.
This half marathon is a daunting challenge for all three of us, but it’s nothing compared to the struggles some members of the RAF community face. We hope that by running 13.1 miles through the iconic streets of London, we can raise vital funds to support the RAF Association’s mission.
As you read our stories and follow our journey, we hope you’ll feel inspired to support us and this worthy cause. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to making a difference in the lives of those who have served.
Andrea’s Story
Anyone who has known me for a while will know that I am not a natural runner. For a long time, running felt like something that just wasn’t for me. But over the past few years, I’ve come to truly understand how important fitness is for maintaining both our physical and mental health.
Surprisingly, I’ve discovered that running is something I can actually enjoy—and I never thought I’d say that! That’s why I’m thrilled to be taking on the challenge of the London Landmarks Half Marathon.
I know it won’t be easy, but I’m determined to succeed. So far, training is going well, and I’m staying focused on my goal.
Fi’s Story
I’ve always encouraged people into running so when Andrea said she was thinking of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for the RAF Association I said ‘I’ll do it, if you do it’, half hoping she would say no and that would be the end of it! Less than 24 hours later we had signed up for the race, pledging to raise money for such a great cause was all the motivation I needed. Training for my second half (on which I cried my way over the finish line, vowing to never run again) is going to be a challenge, but I know on the day it will be a breeze, with Andrea by my side and the knowledge of raising funds for such a great cause, I’m certain I’ll cry my way over another finish line!
I hope you’ll join us in supporting this incredible organisation, every little helps, if you can’t spare any cash do feel free to join us on one of our many training runs!
Lou’s Story
As most of you know I am not built for running!!! The, of tackling a half marathon is daunting and challenging for me, I am so out of my comfort zone. Hyrox seems so much more achievable now, but at the start of that journey it seemed like a mountain to climb! I'm ready to embrace this new challenge.
Once I get out training, I do enjoy the runs, but know training will be tough especially in the lovely weather we have in the UK. Each training session pushes me out of my comfort zone, reminding me that perseverance and patience are key.
Although not a serving member I have many friends who have served and who currently do, so I am happy to support this great charity. I am determined to stay focused on my goal, and complete the London Landmarks half marathon!!
