Story
This August, I'll be running 13 miles across Berneray and North Uist for Firefly in the Outer Hebrides 2 Islands half marathon!
Cue horizontal rain and freezing headwinds as I run to raise money to help Firefly continue their critical work to provide education, peace-building activities and mental health support to Syrian, Bosnian and Palestinian children.
As a Firefly trustee, I've seen first hand how their support changes the lives of over 3,000 children per month in Syria, Gaza & Bosnia with countless more benefitting from their online learning courses. Although currently suspended, Firefly's Gazan project supported over 300 children with expert trauma counselling.
By giving what you can towards this (badly planned and sure-to-end-in-tears) run your donations will go towards the Firefly PHILANTHROPISTS' FUND which aims to raise £1M for children affected by war - tripling Firefly's annual funding capacity and helping them to continue their important work.
WHY NOW?
The world is increasingly dangerous for children affected by war, in 2023 the UN reported a 21% spike in grave violations against children in armed conflict.
THE FUND'S IMPACT
To empower twice as many children through our existing programmes with education, peacebuilding and mental health support. And to launch a new project, supporting the children that need us most at this time.

Children don’t start wars. But wars take away their parents, wreck their schools, destroy their homes.
Wars disrupt the day-to-day certainties that every child needs.
Firefly doesn’t leave when the fighting stops, Firefly stays, to help heal the scars and bring back stability and certainty.
Firefly teaches Syrian refugee children in places where there’s no other early years education.
Firefly offers children whose lives have been torn apart by war a chance to play, learn, paint and make music.
War goes on. Children still suffer, and Firefly has more to do now than ever before.
Firefly needs your help - so please help me help Firefly repair the damage caused by war
