Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In April we will be taking part in the Rickshaw run across India in a Tuk Tuk which will span over around 4,000 km in just under 3 weeks. We will be starting our journey in Shillong and finishing in Fort Kochi. There is no advised route nor any help along the way, it will just be two of us in a rickshaw against Mother Nature.
The rickshaw is three-wheeled and equipped with a 145cc engine that has a maximum speed of 55 kmph.
Shelter is a charity that focuses on defending tenant rights to a safe home, and to fight the impact of the housing emergency in the UK. The housing crisis is something that majority of people are fighting at the moment. Household income is falling, rents are increasing and the overall housing stock is falling. Over 1 million are waiting for social homes, yet last year only 7,000 were built. Since 1991 there has been an annual net loss of 24,000 social homes. This is pushing more households into private rented housing which is unaffordable.
Homelessness is on the rise 40,000 households homeless in 2020 due to unaffordable housing and the social housing deficit is a reason for this, partly due to the reduced funding from the government.
The harsh grip of winter descends upon us, and while some of us are fortunate to have shelter, the grim reality remains that countless families will not.
We would be forever grateful if you were willing to support us on this unusual yet amazing challenge by donating anything you can to this page.
We will also be donating money to another charity called Cool Earth which you can learn more about in a separate link.
