Feed Kids in Kenya: Help Finish Our Community Kitchen

We improve education for children in Kenya to help them build their dreams.

Story

We believe every child has the right to a quality education — and fight for that reality in Nakuru, Kenya. Since 2009, we've provided over 480,000 free school meals to children in need. Now, we dream of going even bigger — expanding our programme to reach hundreds more children in our community.

Why free school meals?

For many of our children, their free school lunch is the only meal they eat. Without it children faint in class, have no energy to learn, and can miss school as they're sent onto the streets to search for food. Children also become ill, developing medical conditions their families can't afford to treat.

What's the impact?

The feeding programme has helped me in many ways. One is concentrating in class because when I was staying without anything to eat for lunch I did not concentrate. If it was not for you I would be hungry but you make sure that we don’t miss eating, even a single day." — Alex, 14 years old.

With a nutritious hot lunch every day, our kids are growing so much healthier, and happier! They're achieving much better results in school because they can learn with all their energy and without worrying about their stomachs. They're less likely to be forced onto the streets or sexually exploited for food. And our children are rarely absent from school. Families are able to save money for other essentials, and local farmers have increased income to support their families, because we buy so much food from them!

What's the big dream?

For the last five years, we’ve been busy building a brand new community kitchen to deliver free school meals to hundreds more local children. We’re nearly there — we’ve bought land, put up fences, constructed a shiny new building, and installed solar electricity. Once it's finished, we plan to significantly expand our programmes: by the end of 2025, we dream of providing 3,000 meals per week to local children.

What do we need?

We need to fit out the kitchen with big stoves, sinks, worktops, shelves, tiling and equipment so we can start providing hot lunch to hundreds of children every school day. We need a total of £10,000 to complete this and allow us to start feeding children in 2025.

With your help, we can start feeding hundreds more children in 2025. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity.
