Story

Surrey County Council is proud to announce its participation in the Farnham Walking Festival with a special Foster Walk, dedicated to raising funds for The Fostering Network. This inspiring event will take place during Foster Care Fortnight, from May 12th to 25th, and aims to bring the community together to support foster families and children in care.

A Walk with Purpose

The Foster Walk will start at the picturesque Gostrey Meadow in Farnham, following the scenic River Wey path towards Farnham Park, looping around the park, and returning to Gostrey Meadow. This 5 km route is designed to be accessible for all ages and fitness levels, making it a perfect family-friendly activity.

Why We Walk

Surrey County Council is committed to supporting foster care initiatives and raising awareness about the vital role foster families play in providing safe and nurturing environments for children. By participating in the Foster Walk, you are helping to:

Support Foster Families: Funds raised will provide essential resources and support for foster families, ensuring they can offer stable and loving homes for children in care.

Raise Awareness: The walk will highlight the importance of fostering and encourage more people to consider becoming foster carers.

Enhance Programs: Donations will support innovative programs like the Mockingbird Family Model, which creates extended family networks to support foster families and improve outcomes for children.

Provide Training: Funds will be used for training and development programs for foster carers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to provide the best care possible.

Join Us for a Memorable Day

Participants are encouraged to wear orange to symbolize support for foster care. Along the route, there will be storytelling stops where participants can share their experiences related to fostering, interactive stations like the "Mockingbird Tree" for messages of support, and photo opportunities to capture memories and promote the event on social media using hashtags like #FosterWalk and #FCF25.
