Story
The Supporters of Chelmsford City are once again hitting the trails, footpaths and hills of the UK in another attempt to raise some funds for a deserving local charity, this time Thriftwood School in Galleywood.
Thriftwood School is day school catering for children and young people aged 7 to 19 years who have moderate learning difficulties - including multiple and complex needs - such as autism, speech, language and social communication difficulties.

Fareway to Weymouth sees a dozen City fans attempt to crack the arduous, boggy, mountainous and no doubt moist trek from the West coast of Wales – Aberystwyth – to Weymouth in Dorset. In a foolhardy effort to make City’s last league game, the group will set off from Wales and traverse the notorious and foreboding Devil’s Bridge (the only thing that may be sacrificed will be our dignity) before we head deep into the Brecon Beacons and clamber up Pen-y-Fan. Dropping down from those heights, the group will cross into England and skirt alongside the Severn Estuary past Weston to Glastonbury. Hopefully avoiding any mud and localised witches and warlock issues, the party will pass through Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge, before beginning the drop down into Dorset via The Cerne Abbas giant, A real mythical ethical mystery tour. It’s a 240 mile yomp, and will yet again test every sinew in our bodies, so the team would, as usual, be humbled to have your support in this endeavour.
We begin from the top of Constitution Hill, Aberystwyth, on Saturday 19th April and will aim to finish in Weymouth by high noon a week later. The group are all self-funding, taking time out of work schedules, and any help is gratefully received if you can.
This year we have been helped out by Fareway Taxis, who have kindly donated not just a minibus for the week, but two drivers to help us on our way.
For this edition of our escapades we have Gavin, Ross, Richie, Jon, David, Richard, Connor, Chris, Kieran, Jack and Mark testing themselves, training has begun, and things are about to get serious!
