I am the the President and founder of Face Friends Foundation Incorporated, let me tell you my story and why I started Face Friends Foundation a few years ago. I was born in Jamaica and grew up there until I was twenty and later migrated to the United States. As a young man growing up in a two bedroom house with five children I really understood what it meant to live in poverty. My most vidid recollection of how devastating the conditions we were in was a very personal experience when I was about seven years old. It was Christmas Eve morning at around 2-3 am and I was awoken by this excruciating sobbing and I lay in bed wondering why someone was crying in the middle of the night in our house. The sobbing and crying went on for so long I had to get up to go see who and why this was happening, so I got out of bed and walked to the living room, and there I saw my mother on her knees crying in anguish. It was Christmas Eve, she had five children expecting to have food, gifts and joy and she was the only person expected to be responsible for getting all this done. I remember she kept saying God me alone in the Wilderness, I watched from the darkness sobbing with her and I remembered crawling back to bed and eventually drifting off back to sleep. I woke up that morning and my mother was in the kitchen making breakfast and I never ever asked her why she was crying upon her death several years ago. I didn’t asked her because deep down I knew why, it was poverty.

So a few years ago during the height of the pandemic I saw families in Sugar Hill Georgia lining up for food at a charity food bank and I saw the desperation of mothers with their children and in an instant my mind flashed back to my mother crying on that Christmas Eve morning and I took out my phone and went live on Facebook to announce I would start a foundation to help the families of Jamaica and Sugar Hill Georgia to overcome the insecurities of poverty. We established Face Friends Foundation right there on Facebook and we have not looked back. It is in memory of my mother who lived in poverty almost all her life in Jamaica.
