The Highland Fling · 27 April 2024

We offer young people aged 6-18 the chance to be involved in a wide variety of positive experiences to help them develop skills and gain confidence. This is our 114th year of providing this service in the community and we are run entirely by volunteers. We are an inclusive group, all are welcome.

Story

I am raising money for two of my Explorers who are headed to Norway this Summer, where they will undertake a multi-day hike through Southern Norway, ending in a huge jamboree in Stavanger. It's an expensive venture, but I am keen to do what I do best to help them - run!

Last year, I ran my first Ultramarathon, the Devil of the Highlands at 42 miles and in April 2024, I intend to top this by running the Highland Fling at 53 miles. For those that know it, it's Glasgow to Tyndrum on the West Highland Way.

It's not an undertaking that I take lightly - I have had problems with hypoglycemic incidents beyond the 30 mile mark, but I have been consistent in training all winter and I am a few big runs away from feeling ready to take this on. I've been speaking to a sports nutritionist too, so I have a solid plan to take this on and finish strong!

I expect to be running for about 11 hours, so I'll need all the encouragement I can get. I'm hoping Inola and Felicia will be there at the end or along the way to cheer me on (and probably make me cry at the end!)
