Going Forth and tackling homelessness!

Forth Bridge Abseil · 16 June 2024 ·
This year is the 10th anniversary since I joined Cyrenians the homelessness charity that I work for. I am not sure why anniversaries with a zero seem important as it’s really just another year, yet it still feels significant. It is the longest I have ever spent in one job. During my forty plus years career my usual modus operandi has been to be a moving target. This suggests that Cyrenians is something special, at least for me.
What I love about Cyrenians is that as a team we put relationships and human connection at the centre of what we do. In the process we provide life-changing and life-saving services for around 10,000 vulnerable children, families, young people and adults a year.
It’s an incredible privilege to be part of such a values-led organisation that makes a very real difference to so many people’s lives.
I mentioned to a couple of colleagues, that I wanted to mark this anniversary in some way. I don’t know if I also mentioned my fear of heights. Long story short, on 16th June, I will be falling – I mean abseiling - off the Forth Bridge. That’s a 165ft drop.
Am I nervous? Yes I am!
If you’d like to show your support and help make a difference to children, young people, families and adults locally whose lives have been devastated by homelessness, you know what to do.
Homelessness is an issue that can only be solved by all of us working together. Thanks so much for any level of support you feel able to give.
