Story
As many of you know, about 2 years ago I amongst many others lost someone extremely important to us. Beck was one of the smartest, funniest, kindest and just generally most unique people I have ever met. From his ‘interesting’ surfing style whereby he would get down low, grab the rail and cruise along the face of any wave as though he was about to get barrelled (even on a 2ft wave). To his cheeky smile and funky dance moves on a club floor. It is fair to say he never ceased to surprise me.
However, one of his most talented (and annoying) characteristics was his ability to master anything he tried. From surfing and skating to cooking or even more creative things such as helping his parents with their beautiful Scabetti installations. He cruised through all of these with such skill. So, in honour of this, I am going to try and master my own challenge for him. Over new years 2024/2025 I will be hiking Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with a group of people to raise money for The Wave Project.
The Wave Project is a charity that aims to help young people with their mental health by getting them out surfing, using the therapeutic properties of the ocean that we all know, as well as encouraging them to try something new. Over the past 12 years they have managed to help over 8000 children and young people through surf therapy. And so I’m hoping that by raising more money for them, they can continue this brilliant work, and help even more people.
This is how your money could help children and young people….
£180 – Specially adapted child’s wetsuit
£300 – Surfboard
£700 - £1000 –a 6-week surf therapy programme
£750 – Adaptive surfboard
£1500 – Changing table for children with disabilities.
I would like to raise at least £2000 the next few months and would be eternally grateful for anything you guys can give.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. And keep an eye out for new posts on here as I will be doing many little challenges between now and then.
