We support remote communities in Malawi to improve health, education & livelihoods

Story

At the start of 2022, Jen and I made a personal goal to reduce our carbon footprint and play our part in supporting the environment. As time went on we felt that as CEO of Affinity Workforce Solutions and Owner of Hive Fitness we also needed to make changes within our businesses to reduce our carbon emissions.

This year, AWS has launched Affinity Zero – our mission to help the planet by reducing our carbon footprint and becoming a suitable business. As part of our mission, we have partnered with Temwa, a community-led charity that aims to end poverty and build climate resilience in rural areas of northern Malawi.

To support TEMWA, we have signed up for Temwa’s cycle challenge. We will be cycling 300km over 3 days in September to raise much-needed funds. All donations will go towards helping TEMWA support vulnerable communities in some of the most impoverished and isolated areas in Northern Malawi.

Please help us reach our £1,500 target.

Founded in 2003, Temwa is a Bristol based charity whose mission is to develop self-sufficient communities in hard-to-reach areas of northern Malawi – itself the third poorest country in the world. We serve the communities of Nkhata Bay North, a very remote area and home to around 55,000 people. Our aim is to provide an infrastructure to support families in this region facing financial and humanitarian hardship. We accomplish this by implementing programmes in health, education, agriculture and forestry. All of our projects are community-driven meaning that local communities are actively involved in the design and implementation of the projects. We deliver our programmes by our in-country Temwa team, all of them nationals with many from the local area, as such they have a deep local and operational knowledge of the needs of Nkhata Bay North.
