Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi, my name is Lisa Gibson from Every Special Detail, and I am organising and hosting a Charity Ball on May 3rd at The Spread Eagle in Thame, in aid of Breast Cancer Now, to help raise valuable funds for this incredible charity. I have set up this page as another way to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now alongside the ball.
My reason for hosting this ball?? Well, I am one of the lucky ones! I was diagnosed early and thankfully have made a full recovery – the support of charities like Breast Cancer Now with their life changing research and support, certainly contributed to my speedy diagnosis and recovery.
However, many are not as lucky, and sadly a close friend of mine passed in 2020 after living with secondary breast cancer for 7 years. It has taken me a while to pluck up the courage to hold this event, but now the time feels right. Breast Cancer Now is steered by world-class research and powered by life changing care, but it is vital that they continue to receive support.
A few facts:
• In the 90’s survival rates for breast cancer were 1 In 7, they are now 1 in 20 – whoop whoop!!
• 55,000 new cases diagnosed each year.
• 98% diagnosed with Stage 1 survive 5 years or more which should be celebrated, but it drops to 26% for a Stage 4 diagnosis.
• Costs to the UK economy in 2024 – £2.6-£2.8 billion
• Wellbeing costs associated with a breast cancer diagnosis, apart from having a major impact on people, their close family, and friends, costs the UK economy £17.5 billion.
They offer personalised support from the diagnosis, to treatment, through to aftercare and beyond (something that is never really considered but vitally important). Believe me it is a very lonely place at the start of the process but having the support and reassurance from these amazing people just makes it a little less lonely and a lot more hopeful not just for the patient but for their family and friends.
So, any donation you can give would be so welcome and, hopefully, your donation along with funds raised at the ball will continue to go a long way to help those that really need it most.
