Story
The road to get here has been slow and has taken a lot of patience.
I was meant to run the Great North Run in 2022 in support of Racing Welfare, a remarkable charity ti supports people of all walks and areas of the Amazon industry i work in.
Ironically it was me turning for help when in July I tore my ACL and MCL in my first training session returning to play football! This was after my boss told me, don’t you get injured!!
The jockey physio at Catterick assessed me and said worst case it ‘could be ACL’ and it was the wonderful Dawn Goodfellow who offered to help me get a MRI to find out the extent of the damage.
I then waited for the racing season to finish before I had the surgery which will put you out of action for 6-9 months at least!
Majory knee surgery is hard, especially with 3 year old twins! But persistence and patience paid off and by April I had slowly started to run 100m, then 200m then, 1k and i’ve built it back up to be able to give the GNR another shot.
The knee has been holding up and despite a spanner in the works with a stress fracture in my foot I’m giving it my best shot!
I’m fundraising to support Racing Welfare for all they do, I have since witnessed first hand the support they give those with other needs and seen the care and time that goes into two close colleagues.
If you know someone in this industry or would just like to help contribute it would be greatly appreciated. Doing something to give back makes me feel really honoured.
Our industry is a lot wider than jockeys, so many people really on this charity from ground staff to valets!
Here’s to hoping I get round without any more more help needed! 😂
