Story
We have chosen MS Society for our 2025 Charity of the Year!
This is a charity that has become near to our hearts at enable as a member of our Development team, George Lee, was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
We will be raising money throughout the year to go towards the vital research MS Society do to develop treatments and an eventual cure for multiple sclerosis.
George's Story:
I've had a few symptoms over the years, but my first major relapse was when I was coming back from Malta in August. My body was fighting something and my body overreacted. When the doctors took my blood my white blood cell count was at 151 and the normal range is between 1 - 5 so something clearly wasn't right. I've become a lot better and stronger since August, but, things aren't fully back to normal. For example, I like running and I use to be able to do a half marathon in 1hr 45 but I couldn't even consider doing a 5k now.
Why MS Society:
While there is treatment for MS there currently isn't a cure. My MS is classified as very aggressive, so I have to go on a drug called Ocrevus which kills a certain white blood cell which is responsible for my MS. The downside of this is that it lowers my immunity, so I'm a lot more vulnerable to things like colds. I want to support the research MS Society do so scientists and doctors can eventually prevent MS from occurring.
