Story
What is it:
I, Emma Pearn – a modern competitive jouster, will be summiting Pen Y Fan, the tallest mountain in South Wales, in full 15th Century plate armour on 28th September 2024.
Why am I doing this:
The stunt is in support of The Royal Armouries and aims to raise awareness about jousting as an emerging modern sport. The Royal Armouries has been instrumental in bringing this exhilarating sport back to life and it is where my jousting career started back in 2021. Without the belief and support of the Royal Armouries, I would not be the jouster I am today.
The Royal Armouries is a charity and relies on the generosity of visitors and supporters to continue its work. Every £1 donated helps the Royal Armouries to care for and grow their incredible historical collection of arms and armour, as well as ensure that visitors and communities can continue to learn from and be inspired by it.
Donations also help to support the continuation of modern jousting. For over 30 years, the Royal Armouries has delivered world-class Jousting Tournaments – bringing this unique and historic sport back to modern audiences. The Royal Armouries Jousting Tournament has grown into a bi-annual flagship event spanning both the Easter weekend and August Bank Holiday weekends. The joust is a real, full-contact, all-out authentic competition where competitors come from across the world to compete.
What you can do:
Please donate to the Royal Armouries to help ensure jousting continues to thrive within the UK. Not sure how much to donate? Here are some suggestions:
£1 could pay for a cabbage for the skill-at-arms demonstration
£5 could pay for metal polish to keep the jouster’s armour clean and rust free
£10 could pay for a balsa end (the frangible part of the lance)
£30 could pay for a new coronel end (the tip of the lance)
£50 could contribute towards bedding for the horses over the Jousting Tournament
£100 would help to engrave the trophy
£200 could help us to supply a horse for a day at the Jousting Tournament
