Story

Today marks the beginning of an emotional and physically demanding journey for Arron, Staci, Olivia, Charlie, and myself. We are about to embark on the 3 Peak Challenge in memory of our dear friend Becky Tinsley, who tragically lost her battle with Primary Liver Cancer on May 15th, 2023. Becky left behind a young family, and her absence is deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

We are raising money for 'Windmills,' an incredible bereavement charity dedicated to supporting children and young people through the difficult times following the death of a loved one. Windmills played a pivotal role during Becky's final weeks, a mere six weeks from diagnosis to her passing. The charity not only helped create lasting memories and keepsakes but also provided the delicate support needed to help break the heartbreaking news to Becky's children.

Becky and I often walked together with our kids, and she had hoped to climb Snowdon this year. In honor of her adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors, we chose the 3 Peak Challenge. Every step we take is a tribute to her memory and a means to ensure that other families receive the compassionate support Windmills offers.

All the funds we raise will go directly to Windmills, helping others navigate the challenging journey of grief and find hope and resilience in the face of such profound loss. Thank you for your support and for keeping Becky's legacy alive through your generosity.

About the charity

Windmills’ specialist acute bereavement nurses work one-to-one with the bereaved child and their family and helps them turn the anger, trauma and negativity around, shaping death’s sudden arrival into a positive, managed and contained acceptance of death’s inevitability and the building of sustaining and fulfilling fond memory mementos. Death is a reality we all face and which cannot be avoided, and for young people in Windmills care it can be resolutely faced, its emotions controlled and managed, and its impact greatly appeased. Windmills’ nurses will often be the first ones to share with the child the news about the death, or its imminence. The nurses provide a caring, empathetic and expert support to the child and will help guide them through all the confusions and emotions that news of a loved-ones death will inevitably bring. Each child is given the time and care they need to help begin to come to terms and an understanding of the impact that death brings to their lives. For some children this will be a few sessions, for others it will be many sessions over a longer period.
