Emma's fundraiser for Sense

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 · 13 October 2024 ·
This past year has been an extremely challenging one for me. After 6 incredible years of living in Amsterdam, I decided to move to London. I navigated the challenges of moving to a new country, starting a new job, making new friends. It was a rewarding and exciting year, but also one filled with lonely and mentally challenging moments. I picked up running as a way to prove myself that I am capable of doing hard things.
In January of 2024, I set myself the goal of running 5km in 2024. Soon enough, I fell in love with running - how it challenged me, made me feel strong and capable, how it gave me a space to put all my thoughts on pause. In February I decided I would challenge myself to a half marathon, and now here I am!
I decided to join the Royal Parks Half Marathon and raise funds for Sense. Sense is a national charity that supports people who are deafblind and those with complex disabilities, to be understood, connected and valued. They are there for every person who faces communication barriers in a world that relies on being able to see and hear well to be connected. Together we can unlock barriers to communication, so no one is isolated, left out or unable to fulfil their potential.
Running gave me a safe space during a time when I felt isolated in a new city, and it has been the source of new friendships and fun memories!
