Story

Listen. I hate running. I am not remotely someone who experiences runner's high, or even a mild feeling of joy from running. BUT. Here we are, inexplicably running 7 half marathon's in 7 different countries over the next (hopefully) two years to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. If raising money for the BHF isn't your top priority, then just know that this is a real struggle for me, this is pretty much the equivalent of me climbing Everest...in flip flops. Due to limited charity places, I can only actually raise money for the Cardiff half but just know that if you donate you're fuelling me to run 6 more half marathons because I will likely be fuelled by this and a large helping of spite.

I'll be running Folkestone, Cardiff, Lisbon, Berlin, Copenhagen, Prague and Valencia.

If you want to follow my running updates, which will inevitably be a montage of me complaining whilst running slowly, then you can follow me on TikTok: @emmaozrlgs

To get real for a minute, it has taken me a long time to get to the point where I felt emotionally ready to do some fundraising for BHF. My husband Dan died suddenly in 2021 due to an underlying heart condition. We were aware of his heart condition, it was being monitored but he still passed away suddenly. It was described to me as SADS - Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome which is akin to cot death for adults. From the time of his diagnosis, the BHF were amazing and offered advice and comfort to both me and other members of Dan's family. Dan was silly and funny and kind and an all round wonderful person - and I mean that with no sense of hindsight inspired romanticism. No, he was genuinely a wonderful person. To be honest it was sometimes very annoying how great he was. He had plans and things he wanted to do. He was living his life. No one should have to go through what we went through and Dan's life should not have been cut so short.

The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!
