Story

I WILL MATCH-FUND YOUR DONATION ....

I was in Dunkirk last weekend with some volunteer friends - we were tasked with offering hot drinks to the refugees in the area. At the time I was so busy, with over 600 hot drinks handed out in a couple of hours, that I did not have time to comprehend the truly diabolical situation for these humans.

I am now haunted with images of teenage boys soaked through and shivering so much they spilled the drinks, people queueing for drinks 8 times to try and get sugar, energy, warmth from multiple coffees, people begging for my litter filled bin liner to use as a waterproof layer......and knowing that is the best item they can hope for before night comes with more rain. I find it hard to imagine I could survive such conditions or that I need to request a bin liner to wear from a coffee stand.

One of RefYouMe's partner NGO's in Northern France is the amazing Mobile Refugee Support. They are on the ground in Dunkirk area everyday trying to provide dry clothes, tents, blankets and shoes to newly arrived refugees who are not equipped for the harsh weather and often have items confiscated by the police. MRS are superheroes in my opinion and so it is so distressing to hear them say this .....

" in Dunkirk the situation is honestly an absolute nightmare. In the six years since the destruction of the jungle I’ve never seen a population this size at this time of year. Still as we go into winter we have groups of young boys and families turning up in the torrential rain. It is estimated at between 1500-2000 people in Dunkirk. Today I could barely move when trying to take requests and distribute simply due to the amount of people trying to access our services, the feeling of desperation for certain items is quite overwhelming.

I know that everyone has a lot going on with people in the uk and with groups working at other borders, but we are desperately low or have run out of so much. If any groups have any material donations, particularly clothes that are not already allocated or any money that could be spent on bulk amounts of items like gloves, it’d all be gratefully received."

I PERSONALLY WILL DOUBLE ANY DONATION MADE IN THE NEXT 4 DAYS UP TO £2000 - So please dig deep and help MRS.

Make your donation here thanks to our partner, forRefugees ( charity number 1168435), and your donation will soon be making a big difference to someone's life

Note: 100% of your donation will go to charity and it is not necessary for you to cover the platform fees as invited. ForRefugees pays platform fees to JustGiving so we are happy for you to change this option to £0.
