Story
3 years ago I intended to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro to prove to myself that 50 was just a number. 3 covid years later we are finally doing it! Ceri, Kate & I.
At a colossal 5,895m, Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes to ever break through the Earth’s crust and is often referred to as the ‘roof of Africa!’
We will trek for 7 days climbing through farmland, into the rainforest that gives way to alpine meadows, and finally traverse across a lunar landscape to reach the peak. Immerging through the clouds, the snow-capped mountain of Kilimanjaro provides the stunning backdrop to the National Park. The cold, high altitude & lack of oxygen is a real challenge all trekkers face however much training they have done.
And in the covid meantime RefYouMe has been born - an extension of my refugee volunteering programme to help raise awareness and raise funds for all of our partner NGO's doing a heroic job in Calais.
So what better way for me to join the ranks of our previous fantastic fundraisers than to try and get some RefYouMe sponsorship for the climb.
I am nearly all packed, my Snickers is ready for the top of the mountain and I am manifesting the summit morning in my picture here!
So - please chip in to help reach my summit target. Thanks. Emma xxxxxxxx
