Story
Back in 2021, Matilda was sent to Brompton shortly after birth with suspected coarctation of the aorta. The staff on the PICU ward went above and beyond and we saw first hand the caring nature of the amazing nurses who cared for Matilda 24/7, whilst also supporting us through such a difficult time. Thankfully, Matilda was discharged from PICU a few days later, as after further investigation, it was found she did not require any treatment.
We had a few follow up appointments over the following year to make sure all was still clear with Matilda and offer reassurance and she was then discharged from Brompton’s care in 2022.
Following Matilda’s final appointment, we certainly never thought we’d have to return but our Lois had other plans! Our worst fears became reality and we were again on our way in an emergency ambulance to the Brompton with little Lois who was diagnosed with heart failure as a result of being in SVT for a prolonged period. After a 10 day stay, and thanks to the incredible nurses and doctors, Lois’s condition was stabilised and she was discharged. It’s been a rocky road since but we have the reassurance and support of the team at the Brompton guiding us through and caring for Lois every step of the way.
The Brompton Fountain Charity helped to take away some worries during the most difficult time by providing us with parent accommodation during our stay in PICU making it one less thing we had to worry about. They funded little extras such as such as books to read to Lois during her stay and keep as well as refreshments for parents. They also fund new medical equipment and improvements to the hospital facilities.
