Story
On the 18th of June 2023 I am taking One Big Jump out of a plane at 15,000ft to Raise Awareness of Learning Disability Week.
Learning Disability Week takes place every summer in June and celebrates the amazing impact of people with a learning disability in our society and shines a light on the issues many people still face. This year the week is 19 – 25th June.
The Mencap owned initiative aims to make sure the world hears what life is like if you have a learning disability through smashing stigmas, fighting and campaigning for a fairer society and educating people about learning disabilities
Visibility and Representation is a key pillar of Mencap's Big Plan. Mencap's vision is for the UK to be the best place in the world for people with a learning disability to live happy and healthy lives. For this to happen PWLD need to be visible and represented in all aspects of society.
That's why we want to use LD week to increase inclusion and decrease stigma. We want to show the general public that that the 1.5million people with a learning disability in the UK live happy, interesting and fulfilled lives.
