Story
I’ve signed up to run the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon on December 22nd, fundraising for Rowans Hospice in memory of my Dad.
Rowans allowed Dad to pass away peacefully at home, with his family around during the Covid pandemic back in January 2021.
My Dad was diagnosed with Colon, Bowel, Liver and lymphoma cancer. He was given a year without treatment, but being the true fighter my Dad was, he fought for 3 long years, having treatment every other week, with minimal breaks.
The Charity's reliance on income from voluntary donations and fundraising events remains vital to the future of local Hospice care. The soaring costs of energy and living could have a devastating impact on us and many other Hospices across the UK, and the people we care for. Collectively, we face more than £100 million in additional costs this year alone!
Rowans Hospice receives a very small level of statutory support from the Government, however, almost all of the money required to provide our services needs to be raised through legacies, individual donations, fundraising events, the Charity's lottery and our Retail shops.
By taking part in the Portsmouth Coastal Waterside Marathon and 'Running for Rowans', you will be directly supporting the delivery of our services now and into the future.
