Story
Just after Ben’s first birthday he started to become unwell with Flu. In a matter of a couple of days Ben became seriously unwell. He was diagnosed with invasive strep a, sepsis and toxic shock. Ben was taken to intensive care in Newcastle where he stayed for 12 days.
Thankfully after a touch and go start, Ben soon started to fight back and has recovered well. But we recognise that without the support of charities during this time, the most challenging experience of our lives would have been made 10x harder.
Having somewhere to sleep (other than snatched hours in spare beds on wards) and a place to shower and eat were so incredibly important for our physical and mental health. We simply couldn't have continued without this support.
So myself and Stuart have decided to join this challenge together to raise as much money as we can. We believe it costs £40 per night to stay at Crawford House so if we can raise enough to cover at least some of a persons stay that would be amazing!
The home for home challenge is accross the month of June where I will be walking 50miles and Stuart cycling 330 miles. But given I walk a lot anyway I am going to push to do even more.
Thanks for any donations :)
Please see below from the sick children’s trust:
The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that provides a welcoming ‘Home from Home’ where families with a sick child in hospital can stay. But we’re more than bricks and mortar, our friendly, caring staff are there to support families when they really need it.
Without us families would have to travel long distances, sleep in uncomfortable hospital chairs or pay for expensive hotels just to be by their sick child’s hospital bedside. Not only do we alleviate financial worries but we also help the mental wellbeing of the families we support.
