Story
In 2022 my Mum and my Aunt were both diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It shook us to the core as a family. How could it happen to both of them just a few months apart? These incredible women showed such strength and this year they have thankfully been given the all clear.
I ran London in October 2022, during a time when we were hopeful, but not certain. I remember the final 5 miles of the marathon and the emotion in me as I ran each of the last miles for women that I know had been diagnosed or were awaiting results of biopsies.
When I run in April, it will be to give thanks and to celebrate, as my Mum and Aunt are two of the lucky ones and I still get to have them in my life. Some of my friends have not been as lucky as I have and are experiencing the immense pain of loss that I can't even imagine.
I am running with my wonderful friend Cecilie. We met in 2021 in our virtual running world on the treadmill and have become great friends and have had the joy of running together in real life on a couple of occasions, but London is the big one. She is a nurse in Norway and has spent her career seeing first hand the impact of Breast Cancer on individuals and their families. The care and support that she shows to her patients every day is incredible and I feel incredibly honoured to share this experience with her.
