Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Our story, my little girl, Noa-Rose became unwell in December 2022 and we were hit with every parent's worst nightmare. Noa-Rose was diagnosed with Meningococcal type B Meningitis on top of that she tested positive for whopping cough and flu. Watching her fight for her life was one of the hardest things any parent would have to watch. Thankfully she survived but she didn't make a full recovery and has now been diagnosed with Epilepsy as a result of meningitis. My wife and I were struggling to come to terms with her illness, life after meningitis and the disability she has been left with until a friend suggested we reach out to Meningitis Now.
Meningitis Now is the first meningitis patient group in the world, founders of the meningitis movement and the only charity dedicated to fighting meningitis in the UK. Over their 30 year history, they have invested over £12.7m in early stage research that has played a critical part in the introduction of five life-saving vaccines. Not only that, they offer support to those who have been affected by meningitis, helping families come to terms with the illness.
Some families will lose loved ones to meningitis and the team at Meningitis Now are there to support them every step of the way. They offer help with rehabilitation, helping survivors get their life back on track and support bereaved families offering the support and help they so desperately need.
They have been a life line to our family and stand beside us throughout the journey we now find ourselves on. The impact they have had on our lives and the lives of others is breathtaking. We really would be lost without their support, advice and knowledge of meningitis. They have helped turn a difficult time into a bearable time and we are not the only family that will forever be grateful for them.
Meningitis is extremely serious and can lead to permanent disability and death. Even with appropriate treatment, the death rate from bacterial meningitis is about 15-20%.
I want to give something back to Meningitis to help support their research and enable them to continue the amazing work they do in supporting those affected by Meningitis.
I will attempt a summit of Mont Blanc, Western Europe's tallest mountain in September in celebration of our meningitis survivor, Noa-Rose. I am asking for your help to raise some much needed funds for this amazing charity, if you can spare anything, even just £1 it will help. Together we can save live's. Thank you for your support
Symptoms of meningitis include being sick, a headache, a stiff neck and a dislike of bright lights. You may sometimes get a rash.
Symptoms of meningitis develop suddenly and can include:
a high temperature (fever)
being sick
a headache
a rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it (but a rash will not always develop)
a stiff neck
a dislike of bright lights
drowsiness or unresponsiveness
seizures (fits)
These symptoms can appear in any order. You do not always get all the symptoms.
We have also been fortunate to raise awareness with S4C through the rugby world cup
