Story
In November 2022, my incredible nan sadly passed away at only 53, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Nicky was a fit, healthy, non-smoker and was diagnosed with advanced, inoperable and incurable lung cancer back in 2017. And for five years, she faced every challenge with strength and dignity. Whilst taking part in clinical trials and ongoing treatments, she still continued living her life to the full, and ALWAYS, no doubt, being there for me and my family.
She fought this disease with everything she had, which was both heartbreaking and inspiring. Despite everything, she never gave up – and I won’t either. That’s why I am running the London Marathon in 2026, in her memory, and to raise funds for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Cancer does not discriminate, if you have lungs, you can get lung cancer - and because of the stigma around this type of cancer, research is desperately underfunded.
This amazing charity assists people living with lung cancer and funds research to help improve early detection, treatment, and ultimately find a cure. Roy Castle have been so important to myself, my nan and my family; they provide so much support for so many families, and I want to give back by challenging myself, and carrying my nan’s strength with me every step of the way.
Training for 26.2 miles will be tough – but nothing compared to the fight my nan and so many others have endured. I’ll be running with her in my heart, and every donation, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to beating this disease.
Please help me honour my nan’s memory and support those facing lung cancer today.
Thank you so much for reading, every donation is HUGELY appreciated💙
