Story
PSPA is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the lives of people living with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD). We provide information and support for people affected by PSP & CBD whilst funding research into the causes, treatment, and eventually a cure. Together we can stop PSP & CBD in their tracks.
So what is CBD? CORTICOBASAL DEGENERATION (CBD) is a degenerative brain disease that affects people from the age of 40 onwards. It can often be misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s or a Stroke, and it’s not a case of having one simple test to diagnose so it can often be overlooked.
I’m raising money in memory of my lovely Grandad, Ken Mardling, who had CBD before he passed away in April 2021. CBD impacted Grandad so much, and I saw how he changed right in front of us all. He lost his ability to speak, which for someone who loved a good natter and was the king of the one liner, was devastating. There were also other symptoms too, which progressively got worse over time.
This was made harder once Covid hit, and we couldn’t see him for a while, as so much had changed in between visits. I know first hand the impact of CBD so I hope the money raised will be able to support people, like my Grandad, who live with CBD and PSP.
I wouldn’t class myself as a natural long distance runner, so this is certainly going to be a challenge! But hey, that’s part of the fun right? Thankfully I’ll have my family team with me, and knowing we’re all in it together in memory of Grandad will make the journey that little bit easier ❤️
