Story
Me again.
It’s time for my redemption run! As some of you may know, I ran the London Marathon for the 1st time last year (my 1st marathon too) and did not give it the respect a marathon deserves i.e., training! However, I did pick a very worthy, and ironically relevant, charity to support and help me get through: Samaritans, a charity dedicated to reducing feelings of isolation and disconnection. I made it to the end with a lot of tears and pain, but your support helped immensely, and we raised £15k!!
This year I wanted (needed!) to redeem myself, and show what you can achieve when you put the work in. So I found another worthy charity and got to work. A few weeks missed here or there, but managed to get in the much needed long training runs and a few tempo runs too (even some skiing!).
My charity of choice for my redemption run is Action Medical Research, a charity funding vital research into childhood diseases and treatments to help save lives. I am running in honour of my nephew Ethan Maximus Green who died 3 years ago on the day of the race (Sunday April 21st). Ethan was born premature at 24 weeks and received the most amazing help possible from the medical team in Boston. Through their amazing support and research, he was able to bless us (and the world!) with his life for 2 very meaningful weeks. Despite all the help from the doctors unfortunately this world wasn’t quite ready for our little Ethan, and he said goodbye April 21st, 2021.
I couldn’t think of a better way to honour his memory than to fight as hard as he did and push my body to do better than it did before.
I don’t want to request you sponsor ME, but please may you consider sponsoring the vital research needed to save more children’s lives in honour of my beautiful nephew Ethan Maximus. Let’s give everyone a fighting chance in this world.
Action Medical Research is the leading UK-wide charity saving and changing children’s lives through medical research. For 65 years we’ve helped pioneer ways to prevent disease and develop treatments benefiting millions of people. Our research has helped to beat polio in the UK, develop ultrasound, fight meningitis and prevent stillbirths. But we urgently need to develop more new treatments and cures for sick babies and children and we can’t do it without you.
Join our fight for little lives.
