London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
This April I'm running the London Marathon for the Meningitis Research Foundation, in memory of my youngest brother Will, who died of Meningococcal Sepsis in January 2023.
Will was one of the sweetest, funniest (and at 6'6", definitely tallest) people in my life and I will miss him forever. He was the most enthusiastic chef, the loudest singer, the quickest drinker, the best hugger, the most inappropriate joker and the boy with the biggest heart.
He was taken from us incredibly quickly, as is so often the case with meningitis and septicaemia.
On the Sunday before we lost Will, he had been out watching Arsenal beat Tottenham, before returning home to tipsily cook a roast. On the Wednesday we celebrated his 22nd birthday at a belated dinner, drinking pints of Guinness and eating schnitzel in Stoke Newington. He was taken ill on the Friday, complaining of feeling fluey, and was rushed to hospital, where his condition deteriorated rapidly before we lost him forever on Saturday afternoon.
Meningitis and septicaemia are deadly, life-threatening illnesses that can kill in hours and impact countless families every year. Will’s life had just begun and we couldn't wait to see what he would make of his many talents. His loss will be felt amongst his loving family and friends for the rest of our lives.
Anything you can donate to will go towards Meningitis Research Foundation's vital work; investing in research, campaigning for vaccines and increasing awareness, in order to prevent the loss of other loved ones and I will be eternally grateful.
Most importantly, I'd love your support to cheer me on and your thoughts to remember lovely Will - I'll be thinking of him every step of the way, all 26.2 miles.
