The Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, 21 May 2023
The past year has been difficult for many, so were aiming to reach as many people experiencing loss as possible. We want to take away some of the tough things that come with losing a loved one, so that families can focus on the most important - love.

Story

My name is Emily Butcher and on 21 May I plan to walk the Yorkshire 3 peaks with my friend Annie, in under 12 hours to raise money for Manorlands.

(Weather permitting – 12 hours is a long time to be soaked for!)

Our family and many others our village will have a family member who spent their last days in Manorlands and will be able to appreciate the care and comfort that they provide. For our family, my Mum, Katherine Butcher spent her last days in Manorlands after losing her battle with ovarian cancer.

Just as when I did my ‘Sponsor My Bob’ in 2021, I would again like to fundraise to raise awareness of grief, and bereavement and raise vital funds for Manorlands. I would like to dedicate my fundraising to my Mum, to everyone else who has been affected by cancer and other terminal illnesses, and to all of their strong families affected.

For me, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks are especially relevant – they are almost the length of a marathon (they are 38.6km yet with 5200ft of ascent), and a key memory I have of my Mum, was when she ran in the South African, 2 Oceans Half Marathon to raise awareness of cancer. At the time, she was battling cancer – for me, that is the ultimate show of bravery and selflessness.

Any donations are welcome.
