Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2018, I cycled to IATEFL Liverpool on behalf of Code your Future, a charity which trains people from refugee backgrounds to be computer coders. I raised around £300.
Last year, I cycled from Glasgow to IATEFL Belfast, raising £2000 for Amala, an education provider for young adults living in refugee camps. I'm very grateful to Ellii.com for donating a generous chunk of that total! I feel privileged to blog for them.
My cycle has now become a bit of a personal annual event. This year, I'd like to raise money for The Hands Up Project. I'll be cycling around 250 miles from Glasgow to Harrogate, over three days.
The Hands Up Project provides opportunities for children in difficult circumstances, such as in Palestine, to use English to communicate. It delivers innovative lessons using storytelling, creative writing and remote theatre.
I chose HUP because this year I'll be speaking at IATEFL about National Geographic Learning's Teaching through Crisis series. https://www.ngl-emea.com/teaching-through-crisis
Many of the ELT professionals featured in the professional development videos have praised their work highly or are personally involved with the organisation. One of my course participants, Susan Piper, is a volunteer and has inspired me with many wonderful stories and hand drawn classroom activities.
You can find out more about at https://www.handsupproject.org/
You could also attend their face to face conference on the Saturday after IATEFL (22 April), in Harrogate. Speakers include Nick Bilbrough, Harry Kuchah Kuchah, Fiona Mauchline, Adrian Underhill and me! https://www.handsupproject.org/handsupgoesforth
My aim is to smash my fundraising personal best by at least £500. Can you help me reach £2500? Once you've donated, please share my journey on socials, etc.
If you have any questions, or want to get in touch with me (or join me by cycling/walking/paddleboarding/unicycling there too), here are some useful links:
