Story

MIND has been a dream charity of mine to run for since I started long-distance running last year. How my delusions and FOMO have escalated to me running a WHOLE ASS MARATHON?? My guess is as good as yours😂

Little bit about my running journey - I used to be a “I do not run.” kinda gal where I would rather miss the bus than run for it. Long story short I got into running and weekly runs would be my favourite thing to look forward to because they brought me a sense of control.

Then one day my runs became something more than just exercise, because I was feeling very overwhelmed that day and nothing seemed to be helping so I just went on a run. When I tell you, I’ve never experienced this feeling before, it was as if a button was pressed in my brain and there was this release, and everything just floated away. That was when I realised what people meant by running for mental health reasons.

Mental health has been a big part of my life since I was very young; in myself, my family and my friends. I myself have ADHD, suffer with anxiety and panic attacks, and the one place which never failed to answer my questions, help me figure myself out, find coping mechanisms and just overall ease my worries was MIND.

MIND was the first place I would turn to for information, especially after getting officially diagnosed with ADHD at 18 and finding myself in university, trying to find new ways of learning and coping with myself with a new brought understanding.

They have helped me cope and deal with a lot of things (for personal reasons I won’t go into detail), but no matter what I new that I could find reliable information and help through them. And that is why when I realised that I had a chance to give back and also do something absolutely crazy - I jumped on it!

Information from MIND:

When you're experiencing a mental health problem, supportive and reliable information can change your life. That's what we do. We empower people to understand their condition and the choices available to them through the following:

-Our Infoline, which offers callers confidential help for the price of a local call.

-Our Legal Line, which provides information on mental health related law to the public, service users, family members/carers, mental health professionals and mental health advocates.

-Our award-winning information, certified by the PIF Tick.
