Story
33 people every day are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour – that’s 12,000 each year. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under the age of 40. Although, only 3% out of the £700m spent on cancer research in the UK is spent towards brain tumours.
The Brain Tumour Charity is committed to saving and improving lives, they are set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change.
This charity is very close to mine and my family’s heart. My older brother (Josh, aged 28) was diagnosed with a brain stem glioma at the age of two with a life limiting prognosis beyond the age of 10. This has affected his central nervous system and left him as a permanent wheelchair user.
His physical abilities have deteriorated over the years but despite the challenges he has consistently faced, he attended mainstream school, college and University where he graduated with a degree. Josh was enjoying working full time when unfortunately, in 2018 he contracted two bouts of pneumonia just two months apart. He was very poorly and was left fighting for his life. The impact of the tumour made his road to recovery complex, where he had to learn to speak again.
Despite this, he has always maintained a strong positive attitude and is making steady progress. His resilience and determination is an inspiration. He is a survivor!
This is just one small way that I can show my love and support for my brother and raise awareness of this amazing charity and the work it does for other children and adults alike facing similar difficulties. They understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait.
Any donations would be massively appreciated and will help the charity continue their incredible work and research!
Thank you,
Millie x
