Story
We're raising funds for Cancer Research UK after our friend and M.D., Eddie, was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2018. Following his diagnosis, we participated in our first relay that year to provide him with a target to aim towards while he underwent treatment. The event and the act of setting goals proved immensely beneficial for him, and he set the incredible goal of one day walking the El Camino de Santiago—hence the name, Next Stop Santiago.
The Camino de Santiago is an ancient pilgrim route that stretches across Europe. Eddie plans to also undertake the additional route, the Camino to Finisterre, which was known as the pilgrimage to the end of the world in Medieval times.
Having climbed to Everest Base Camp in 2010, Eddie viewed it as reaching the top of the world. Now, in 2024, he aims to walk to the edge of his world by undertaking his own pilgrimage.
Once Eddie returns from his pilgrimage, we'll embark on our 5th Jarrow Relay for Life (plus 2 virtual walks and a Tees Valley Relay for Life)
