Coniston Challenge for Alder Hey Children's Charity

Story

In a bid to give back to Alder Hey Children’s Charity, a fantastic cause that has supported our son, Elliott, since birth, we have decided to take part in the Coniston Challenge to raise money.

Elliott is now 2 years old. He was born with a complete Atrioventricular Septal Defect (AVSD) and, to date, has had open-heart surgery four times and surgery to perform an ileostomy after developing Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) following his second heart surgery.

Unfortunately after his latest heart surgery Elliott developed “complete heart block” and due to this required surgery again to have a pace maker fitted.

Within the next few months Elliott will return to Alder Hey for what is hopefully his last surgery for a couple of years, to reverse his ileostomy.

We have been fortunate to have been supported by Alder Hey and all of its fantastic staff members through the hardest period in our lives. Please help us give something back!

What is the Coniston Challenge?

* 12km trek up the Old Man of Coniston

* 15km bike ride through the Grizedale Forest

* 3km kayak across Coniston Water

Our team of 6 will be completing this challenge on 6th July 2024. The "Cardiac Crusaders" taking on the challenge are:

* Rio (Elliott’s Mum)

* Jack (Elliott’s Dad)

* Andy

* Nathan

* Fred

* Sarah
