Story

Thanks for supporting me and Sophie on this daunting adventure! I'm challenging myself to combine swimming, cycling and running for the first time in support of our amazing Queens Park Community and specifically the work of Salusbury World, including through special programming at the Lexi Cinema.

I've never let my blindness stop me doing the things I love - including being a local Cllr and previously chairing the Royal National Institute of Blind People.

But this is a long way out of my comfort zone: and until 3 years ago my relationship with sport was non-existent. So I'm also challenging myself to prove that it's possible to complete a challenge like this at whatever fitness and confidence level you are.

The amazing woman making this possible for me is Sophie, who has coached many adults and youngsters in the Queens Park Harriers running club, is a regular parkrun director and an inspiration and mentor to lots of us. But she has never ridden a tandem, nor guided someone in open water.

We'll be tethered together for the 400m open water swim and 2.9km run and ride a tandem around the somewhat hilly 10km course.

Our training has presented challenges for us both: there've been anxious moments and some tears: but also a lot of laughter as we figure it out together.

We are (almost)-confident and (almost)-ready. With the incredible support of the other 150 locals heading to Blenheim to run, cycle and swim for our community I know we'll be able to give it our best shot #forthegoodofthehood.

PLEASE HELP PEOPLE LOCALLY!

We're fundraising for Salusbury World - a remarkable refugee charity in Queens Park who've been ensuring people new to our area feel welcome for over 20 years. Their ethos of fair chances for everyone inspires me to get out early for a chilly swim or jog the hills of Gladstone Park, which never seem to get any easier.

Please support us to help Salusbury World continue its work -, including community programming at our much-loved and award-winning social enterprise Lexi Cinema -. Donations with Gift Aid will increase your donation by 25%.

A huge thank you for all your support from us both. You can follow our progress @kensaltri on Instagram or www.kensaltri.com.
