Story
Welcome, and thank you for visiting our JustGiving page!
We, Lauren and Ellie, have decided to lace up our running shoes, embrace the challenge, and run the London Marathon 2024. But we're not doing this for the thrill alone. This is a cause close to our hearts - Cardiomyopathy UK, the national charity that has been a constant source of support to our family and many others affected by cardiomyopathy.
So, what is cardiomyopathy? It's a disease that affects the structure and function of the heart muscle, making it harder for the heart to pump blood around the body. Around 220,000 people in the UK live with this condition, but the true extent remains obscured due to a lack of accurate data.
In our case, we experienced the realities of this disease when our Mom was diagnosed in 2015. However, we weren't alone in the journey. Cardiomyopathy UK provided us with invaluable support, information, and a caring community. But not everyone is as fortunate!
Cardiomyopathy UK is dedicated to raising public awareness and advocating for improved treatment access alongside brilliant NHS consultants. They have launched the patient-centred Cardiomyopathy Change Agenda, working with clinicians, commissioners, and volunteers, like their Change Makers, to revolutionise care.
By running the London Marathon, we want to honour our Mom and everyone affected by cardiomyopathy. We aim to raise £4000 to support Cardiomyopathy UK's extraordinary work. This is where you can help us. By contributing to our fundraising effort, you're not only cheering us on our 26.2-mile journey but also supporting a cause that could change lives. After all, we all need a healthy heart <3
Thank you.
