Story
This June we're joining Team Manta in their 5200km challenge to Cross the Oceans between Peru and Mexico and raise funds for the Manta Trust.
Manta rays are some of the most beautiful, curious and gentle animals in the oceans... plus they are bloody massive, reaching up to 7m from wingtip to wingtip and weighing up to 2 tonnes! They have the biggest brain of any fish and exhibit complex social interactions so they are smartie pants.
But these gentle ocean giants, who just want to swim around eating plankton and posing for pictures, are being slaughtered for their gills which are used in Asian medicine. Plus thousands are killed incidentally as bycatch in fisheries each year catching things like tuna and swordfish. Along with their smaller cousins, devil rays, mantas are now some of the most threatened fish in our oceans :(
Over June we're collectively aiming to run / cycle 800km to help Team Manta virtually travel from Peru to Mexico, raising funds to help support vital conservation efforts for these beautiful, big flappy weirdos!
Anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated :)
