Why I'm raising funds for SuperTroop
Since 2018 I have volunteered with SuperTroop - a small charity that provides extraordinary residential holidays for children and young people with a learning disability. If you know me, you'll have already heard how much SuperTroop means to me. It is truly a magical experience - the holidays provide young people with new experiences and opportunities for independence. Importantly, they also give parents and carers precious respite time.
Currently, we run one annual holiday in Edinburgh. The families of the young people who attend our holidays don't pay anything; the holidays are fully funded through donations. Each and every one of the staff involved in running the holidays are volunteers.
Please watch the video above to get a glimpse into the magic of a SuperTroop holiday and what it means to our volunteers.
To continue providing holidays and eventually expand SuperTroop, we constantly need to raise funds. We have launched "SuperTroop September" - a whole month of activities and challenges to reach our fundraising target of £8000.
My challenge will be the Munro challenge!
The Munro challenge
On the 25-27th August myself and a group of fellow volunteers will hike 14km with our backpacks, camping gear and supplies for three days to the Courrour bothy in the Lairig Ghu, in the middle of the Cairngorms. We will get up very early the next morning and climb four Munros in one day, covering a total distance of 30km. These Munros include the 3rd and 4th highest peaks in the UK (Braeriach and Cairn Toul). The next day we will hike the 14km back to civilisation.
Any £ you can spare would mean so much to SuperTroop and will give me a proper boost when I'm walking (dragging) myself up the Munros.
Thank you.
More info about SuperTroop and your donation
Our holidays will give magical new experiences and opportunities for independence to children and young people with disabilities. Our goal is to create a place where holiday-makers feel surrounded by fun and friends.
At a minimum, the people in our care should be:
Safe: we will protect our holiday-makers from harm
Happy : we will make the holiday lots of fun
Respected: we will consider the rights and wishes of our holiday-makers at all times
Nurtured: we will give everyone a chance to try new things, and to do the things they love
Your donation will allow the holiday to be what it should be; fun and filled with activities and opportunities. It will contribute to vital aspects of the holiday such as trips and transportation costs; volunteer training; personal care and medical supplies; and toys, games and arts & crafts.
