In August 2023, our beloved Danny, a brother, husband, father, son, uncle, friend, and many other things, was taken away from us, in what felt like a heartbeat. Danny's fight with cancer was over so quickly it never really felt real. By the time he was given his diagnosis, it was heartbrakingly too late, only giving his friends and family just enough time to say goodbye. Since then, a Danny shaped hole has been left in all our lives. He had so much left to live. Just two months before Danny was fit and healthy, playing football (a sport he massively loved). This shows just how quickly this horrible illness can have a devastating impact on peoples lives. Danny was loved and needed by so many people, the outpoor of love for him and his family has been truly overwhelming.

Almost everyone's lives will be affected by cancer in some way or another. We will therefore be running the Barrows and Downs Salisbury marathon on the 12th October with Danny in our minds and hearts, to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Oesophageal Cancer. This is with the hope to reduce the amount of pain and suffering those who experience this cancer endure, and the huge loss it brings to their families.

The Oesophageal Patients Association (OPA) charity supports those with oesophageal and gastric cancers. Their mission is to improve survival and quality of life. They raise awareness and encourage early diagnosis by providing advice and support throughout the journey. Only 12 percent of people with oesophageal cancer survive 10 or more years compared to 50% for other cancers. This shows the importance of raising awareness and funds for this cause.

Danny was a very positive soul, a cheeky chappy, a wind up merchant, and incredibly kind and caring, with an infectious smile. With the amount of lives he has touched, he will never ever be forgotten, and every day we all strive to be more Danny.
